GEDII is a scientific association formed by healthcare professionals involved in the study and treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Every year, GEDII organizes an annual event for the medical and student community. In 2023, GEDII approached Bavaroise to present something different but aligned with the work we’ve done in previous projects with GEDII, such as the IBD course in 2022. The ‘Reunião Anual GEDII 2023’ took place at the Hilton Porto-Gaia and spanned three days, including a Nursing course.
Idea
Despite the medical and technical advances, the event featured speakers and papers on IBD in general and had no specific theme. Nevertheless, we scheduled a visit to GEDII at the Medical Research Center of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Porto to explore their world. The daily routine of the GEDII team involves data analysis, similar to any lab, but to outsiders like us, we find beauty in their work and space, which eventually serves as inspiration.
Our initial idea was to focus on the year 2023 itself, as it is an annual gathering. How did we do that? We made the number ‘2023’ the central element of our design.
After some moodboarding, we decided to use an analogy of the bowel as our internal plumbing, presented in a fun and playful style. We created imagery resembling playful tubes and slides, like a hamster’s playground, with glowing balls representing inflammation, using 3D design to bring it to life. For the event logo, we opted for simplicity and employed a thin and tall font that echoed the same features as the main image.
Similarly, for the ‘Curso de Enfermagem – Nursing Course,’ we followed the same design guidelines, using a cross as a health symbol but with equally intertwined elements and playing with perspective.
