Idea

MAAT opens doors to artists who question art, materials and space, therefore what popped-up in our heads was something that should stimulate creativity and doesn’t offer limits to imagination in terms of figures, like most typical coloring books.

And for the graphic language we wanted to relate with its avant-garde architecture and unique and creative content.

The process we used for this project was quite different, since we couldn’t communicate with the client. So we collected and researched activity books and consulted a big reference of UK magazines for kids. The goal was settled: create an illustration style for children, which would create doubt, challenge and fun.

In this way, the concept “CreAATures” was born, a series of shapes that are in “limbo” between beings, objects or buildings. An unsetting feeling “of not knowing what it is or is not”, gives freedom to each observer/creator to decide what each shape represents.
